Oji Paper is the largest Japanese paper manufacturer with a company history spanning over 130 years. Since its establishment as the first modern paper manufacturing company in Japan, it has consistently led the Japanese pulp and paper industry, from the initial consolidation of the industry through to the present time. The driving force for this leadership has been a continuing commitment to innovation. This has resulted in Oji taking a dominant share of the Japanese paper and pulp marketplace.
Oji combines leading technological capabilities with defined ecological policies in the use of timber as part of the manufacturing processes. Oji’s policies are clear with an established Code of Corporate Conduct that includes Harmony with the Environment. Through this Code Oji promotes forest recycling and paper recycling that are in harmony with the environment from a global perspective. As a result of this Code, Oji Paper has 11 forestry products in Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, China and Brazil with a total coverage of 190,000 hectares of sustainable forest. Oji adopts a cyclical approach to the procurement of raw materials including the systematic approach to tree planting.
Oji’s corporate strategy is to build global networks for existing products and to develop new product capabilities to meet the demands of the changing marketplace. The acquisition of ILFORD in July 2005, meets this overall strategy.
